Sara Preisler Gallery Award at the BCU School of Jewellery
The Stirchley School of Jewellery is delighted to congratulate the winners of this year’s Sara Preisler Gallery Award for Practical Realisation of Concept.
Louisa (@louisamayjewellery) and Eve (@evellewellyn_jewellery) impressed Sara with thoughtful, beautifully executed projects that demonstrated strong creative vision and technical skill. It was a pleasure to meet both makers and to see their work in person. We look forward to following their careers and working with them in the future.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Birmingham City University and the School of Jewellery for hosting such a warm and inspiring Graduate Show Industry Event. The evening brought together graduates, tutors, industry professionals and long‑standing supporters of the jewellery community. The atmosphere was filled with creativity, enthusiasm and a genuine celebration of emerging talent.
At the Stirchley School of Jewellery, events like this highlight the importance of nurturing creativity and supporting the next generation of makers. Seeing graduates step confidently into the jewellery industry reflects the impact of dedicated teaching, hands‑on learning and supportive learning environments. These values sit at the heart of our school and guide everything we do.
We look forward to seeing how these talented graduates shape the future of contemporary jewellery. Congratulations once again to all the makers, students and educators who continue to keep our craft thriving.

An Honoured Guest
We were honoured to welcome Dr. Darlie Oommen Koshy, Strategic Advisor of the World Crafts Council, to our sister school, the Stratford School of Jewellery. Dr Koshy enjoyed a tour of our workshop during his UK visit for the celebration of Birmingham being recognised as a World Craft City.
It was a privilege to share our work and community with such a distinguished guest. Our sincere thanks to Dr Koshy for this inspiring visit!

Birmingham Jewellery Quarter Trip
We are so excited to announce our first ever Stirchley and Stratford Schools of Jewellery trip!
If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the jewellery industry, the work that goes on behind the scenes and how to navigate the Jewellery Quarter itself then this trip is for you!
On Tuesday the 22nd of April Stirchley and Stratford schools of jewellery will be hosting a trip to Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter for an opportunity to have a peek behind the curtain of the jewellery industry! We will be hosted by the renowned international company Cooksongold at their Birmingham location to see behind the scenes and learn more about the industry as well as attend tool and technique demonstrations from their in-house experts.
This trip is also an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded jewellery students from both sister schools! And what better way to bond than over Italian lunch in the Quarter?
This trip is £25 per person plus a deposit for lunch at Pasta Di Piazza that will be taken after booking.
More details regarding timings and transport will be available closer to the date.

NEW COLLABORATION
In an exciting new development, international Company Cooksons Gold has approached Stratford and Stirchley Schools of Jewellery to film, in our workshops, a featured ‘class setting’ to promote the exciting new seasons craft packages they will be launching in the coming months!
In this exciting opportunity they are looking for enthused students at the schools who would like to participate in a morning or afternoon series of ‘poses’ and ‘action shots’ to assist in their promotion campaign, we are expecting that this will both be film and photography!
Filming/ photography will take place in the Stratford School of Jewellery on 20.10.24 in two sessions: 10.30-1.00 and 2.30 -5pm, students are asked to bring a piece they have made that they are proud of and also a piece of unfinished work they can work on while the filming is taking place. We have only 8 places per session and we are expecting to be busy so booking a slot with us here at the school is essential!
In addition to happy smiley people, they are also hoping to find students who are willing to ‘share their story’ of why jewellery making is fun and what led them to start making in the first place, the stories do not have to be elaborate, they are looking for simple honest reasons that their customer base will resonate with. Cooksons have said they would provide a goody bag for all participating students by way of thanks*
To take part simply contact us here at the school to book a place letting us know which session you would be interested in, places will be given on a first come first served basis.
*Please note the Stratford & Stirchley Schools of Jewellery and Creative School of Materials Limited have no authorisation and control over any goods that Cooksons may be offering and have forwarded news of this possible recompense with no control over content or actuality.
